Newsletter from 1/24/2007 Homebrewers,
Sorry about the delay on getting this one out, I haven’t been able to lock in a meeting date & place until now. I hope the new year is treating everyone well.
Local News
Upland has there good as always winter warmer on draft now, so if you haven’t had it yet, get down there before it’s gone.
An occasional meeting attendee from Salem, IN contacted me recently to let me know that there is a commercial grade Perlick four ½ barrel capacity, four faucet kegerator with attached refrigerator for sale. He says it’s in good working condition and is looking to get $400 out of it. If you’re interested, let me know and I’ll forward you his phone number. It sounds like a pretty sweet deal, so if you’re interested, best jump on it soon.
Club Stuff Technically we should be having a meeting Jan 25th, but due to circumstances we will be pushing the meeting back one week to Thursday February 1st. I will be hosting this one you can find directions here. The meeting will start at 7pm. So I hope to see you next week Thursday! As always, bring homebrewed or commercial beers to share.
We will be going back to the 4th Thursday of the month, so our February meeting will be on the 22nd. Meeting details will be in the next newsletter.
There has been talk of having a polar bear brew day sometime in February, but with the weather we’ve been having I’m not sure how polar it will be. At least the beer will be cold. I’ll send out more information in the next newsletter which should be out by Feb 9th.
Beer Style of the Month January is “Brew a Lager” month. If you’ve never tried your hand at brewing a lager, now is a great time to do it. Decide what kind of lager you’d like to make, buy a lager yeast strain and ferment it in your cold garage. Leave it in your 45-60 degree garage for 2-3 weeks and then rack it to secondary and let that sit in the coldest area of your garage for another month. If you bottle, be sure keep the bottles at room temperature for the first two week. Throw ‘em in the fridge and enjoy! Homebrewed lagers are fantastic!
Here’s to the beer in the New Year!
Happy ‘07,
Ryan Copyright 2007
