Brewtastrophe #002: Topless Brewing is Too Hot for TV! -- Contributed by Bob Probst

New Years Eve 2005 and a new brewer decided to ring in the new year with style... A Pale Ale brewing session! Still new to the brewing process, he's an extract brewer and his More Beer kit came with Liquid Malt Extract. As we've all experienced, getting that last bit of syrup out of the container can be a bitch and this home brewer came up with an inexperienced solution: Take boiling wort from the kettle, add it to the PLASTIC screw top shipping container and shake it vigorously -- "Surely this will bring the extract into an easily pour-able solution", he thought. He was half right. Those of you who did not fail high school science will recall that hot air expands and plastic become soft when heat is added. Needless to say, boiling hot sugar water sprayed from the, now warped, plastic container and while the kitchen received a proper dousing, the shaker fared worse, with 2nd degree burns to the abdomen -- this homebrewer won't brew shirtless again!
